: Guillaume de Bailliencourt Morgan Multimedia M-JPEG codec new version, heavily optimised Montpellier, France – November, 2001 - Morgan Multimedia, a digital imaging technology company, today releases the new version of its software M-JPEG codec. This third version is particularly optimised for Intel and AMD last generation CPU and Windows XP and 2000 operating systems. The Morgan M-JPEG codec can compress and playback full screen video at more than 30 pictures by second without compromising quality, replacing “common” hardware solutions based on additional cards or dedicated chipset. Morgan M-JPEG codec version 3 is available for immediate and free download by visiting : http://www.morgan-multimedia.com. “Many cards use M-JPEG, but in proprietary and incompatible one with each other versions. So, it is very hard to playback a Pinnacle video with a Matrox card. Thanks to our codec this incompatibility can be solved, it can playback most of proprietary versions”, declares Guillaume de Bailliencourt, Morgan Multimedia Manager and founder. And he adds : “Today, even a low-end range PC is powerful enough to dispense with “old” hardware codecs and use our 100% software solution in place. In several fields like video capture and editing, video surveillance or videoconference, Morgan M-JPEG codec use allows to avoid the cost of an expensive dedicated hardware. When we ask him how he puts M-JPEG regards to other formats such as DV or MPEG, he answers : “ MPEG 2 or MPEG 4 codecs are adapted to broadcasting because of their very high compression rate. But don’t even think about capturing full screen video at 30 frames by second on a low-end range PC with a MPEG codec software without impairing quality. DV is similar to M-JPEG in terms of quality and compression rates but it needs more power and specific video devices acquiring.” Regarding Morgan M-JPEG software codec optimisations, Jerome Doucet, Morgan Multimedia low-level system developer, declares : ”Our MMX, SSE and SSE2 extensions expertise allows us to exploit all the power of Pentium III, Pentium 4 and other Athlons XP CPU.
