 Q : What is a
codec?
A :1) In communications engineering, the term codec is used in reference to
integrated circuits, or chip that perform data conversion. In this context, the term is an
acronym for "coder/decoder." This type of codec combines analog-to-digital
conversion and digital-to-analog conversion functions in a single chip. In personal and
business computing applications, the most common use for such a device is in a modem.
2) The term codec is also an acronym that stands for
"compression/decompression." A codec is an algorithm, or specialized computer
program, that reduces the number of bytes consumed by large files and programs.
In order to minimize the amount of storage space required for a complicated file, such as
a video, compression is used. Compression works by eliminating redundancies in data.
Compression can be done for any kind of file, including text, programs, images, audio,
video, and virtual reality (VR). Compression can reduce the size of a file by a factor of
100 or more in some cases. For example, a 15-megabyte video might be reduced to 150
kilobytes. The uncompressed file would be far too large to download from the Web in a
reasonable length of time, but the compressed file could usually be downloaded in a few
seconds. For viewing, a decompression algorithm, which "undoes" the compression,
would have to be used. There are numerous standard codec schemes. Some are used mainly to
minimize file transfer time, and are employed on the Internet. Others are intended to
maximize the data that can be stored in a given amount of disk space, or on a CD-ROM.
Q : What is a video software codec?
A : It's a video compressor/decompressor which doesn't require a capture card with
a built-in hardware codec to encode or decode video.
Once you have installed the codec in your system it can be use with any avi player to play
avi mjpeg video streams.
Q: What is MJPEG?
A: Moving JPEG.A moving image which is made by storing each frame of a moving
picture sequence in JPEG compression, then decompressing and displaying each frame at
rapid speed to show the moving picture.M-JPEG does not use interframe coding as MPEG
does.Sometimes called Motion JPEG.
Q:Do I need an MJPEG software codec?
A: You need an MJPEG software codec in several situations :
If you have
a TV Tuner card you can use it in combination with an MJPEG software Codec to capture
video in high resolution from an input source (Tuner, Camescope, VCR).
If you have
a Hardware codec card on a computer (like Matrox Rainbow Runner, Miro DC30,DC50,Miro
DC1/DC10, Iomega Buz ...)and you want to play the video streams created with this card on
others computers which doesn't have one.
You can use
Morgan Codec to render video with a video editing tool (Adobe Premiere for exemple).
- If you are a CU-seeme user you can broadcast you webcam stream in
color by using the Morgan codec
- ...
Q : I've followed the instructions for registration, but
when I try using the
codec, a message is displayed saying " The Trial Period Has Expired'. What
should be done to correct this?
A : You must enter your license key and your user name by respecting the case, use
the copy|paste function if you want to be certain to avoid any mistake.
Q : How do I uninstall this codec?
A : Go into the m3jpegv2 directory (usually in C:\) and run uninstall.bat, however
if the uninstall fail you can delete the m3jpeg32.dll from the c:\windows\system
directory.
To remove the mmtray : click on start | run and type msconfig, then you can desactivate
mmtray.exe from the startup.
